Real Life Holiday Stories from the island of Tenerife
My Holidays in Tenerife By Kelly, Supervisor - Cheap Tenerife Flights
When I first visited Tenerife I was a young girl wanting a lively holiday, which is what I got. We stayed in Los Piromides apartments in the centre of Playa de las Americas, which definately lives up to its name as a rowdy, lively resort. It is great if you're under 25, but don't be fooled into thinking this is all Tenerife is about as Tenerife has a lot more to offer.
FAST FACTS : Playa de las Americas is bright, brash and exciting, this town is a pleasure seekers paradise and a sun worshipper's idea of heaven.
My boyfriend and I returned to Tenerife in 1997 and ventured further up the resort of Playa de las Americas and stayed on the outskirts of Costa Adeje, which is a lot more quieter and a lot more scenic than Playa de las Americas, both of us then realised that Tenerife didin't have to be that rowdy place we once experienced.
FAST FACTS : Costa Adeje offers a more relaxing break, this small resort lies on the western edge of Playa de las Americas, and is favoured by the rich.
A 15-minute walk into Costa Adeje took us into another world (or so it seemed), luxury 5-star hotels and a beautiful white sandy beach made this resort our holiday choice for the last 4-years in a row! Cafes, bars and restaurants line the beachfront, but there is no hassle and no noise, a stroll along the beachfront will take you to La Caleta where there are an abundance of 4 and 5-star hotels, if you choose carefully they are not all expensive.
FAST FACTS : La Caleta is a small resort and is very easy to miss, you're find it hidden away between the resorts of Playa Paraiso and Playa de las Americas.
Most hotels run their own excursions one of which is "Loro Park" which is a wildlife park situated in the north of the island in a resort called Puerto de la Cruz. A 1.5-hour (approx.) coach journey will take you to the Loro Park which is a great day out, we watched a dolphin show, seals, visited the penguin house, you name an animal, they have it!
FAST FACTS : Loro Park has the largest collection of parrots in the world, the worlds largest penguinarium, a dolphinarium, zoo & tropical gardens.
Puerto de la Cruz is a peaceful resort, one of the first resorts on the island means that some of the accommodation is rather old, but still of a good standard and very popular with the 40+ age group due to its quiet and rather cosmopoliton reputation.
FAST FACTS : Puerto de la Cruz is on the north coast of Tenerife. A cosmopolitan, old colonial town well known to tourists from all over Europe.
If you get bored lazing around and soaking up the all round Tenerife sunshine then you could take a trip to Mount Teide, where parts of the Star Wars and James Bond films have been filmed. Only the coastal regions of Tenerife are inhabited with the centre of the island being dedicated to the islands National Park.
FAST FACTS : Mount Teide last erupted in the 16th Century & stands proud in the crater of a much larger volcano which forms the Las Caņadas National Park.
If you are a keen golfer then you can take a round or two at one of Tenerife's prestigious PGA rated golf courses.
FAST FACTS : The ideal golfing destination. A year round, pleasant climate & concentration of world class golf courses in a small area make it a golfers dream.
